🔬 About the EO4ANK Project
EO4ANK is part of the Natural Climate Protection Action Programme (ANK) funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV). The project focuses on the development of a modular environmental monitoring toolbox (ANK Toolbox) to support peatland rewetting, a key measure in climate change mitigation.
This interdisciplinary initiative is a collaboration between:

📌 Research Assistant Job Details
- Position Title: Research Assistant (f/m/d) – Environmental Monitoring
- Location: Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture, Braunschweig, Germany
- Employment Type: Temporary full-time (39 hours/week)
- Contract Duration: Until December 31, 2027
- Salary: Pay group 13 TVöD (German public sector salary scale)
🧪 Key Responsibilities
- Develop data-driven models to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from peatlands using vegetation and water level datasets.
- Enhance national peatland emission databases through scientific data integration.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, contribute to technical reports, and support public outreach materials.
🎓 Required Qualifications
Educational Background:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent diploma) in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Biology, or related disciplines.
Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in peatland science, particularly GHG exchange research.
- Proficiency in R, Python, or similar programming languages for environmental data analysis.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) is highly desirable.
- Background in geobotany or mire vegetation is an advantage.
Language Skills:
- Strong command of German or English (spoken and written).
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work independently and manage complex datasets.
- Passion for interdisciplinary environmental research.
- Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
