The Department of Aquatic Resources (SLU Aqua) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) is offering a 4-year fully funded PhD position in Biology with a specialisation in Environmental Science, based at the Institute of Coastal Research in Uppsala, Sweden.
Research Focus & Coastal Restoration Scope
Coastal and marine ecosystems face multi-factorial environmental pressures. This doctoral project focuses on strategic, spatial planning for coastal marine restoration across three sustainability dimensions:
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Developing quantitative indicators assessing ecological, economic, and social outcomes of coastal restoration actions.
- Interdisciplinary Modeling: Combining marine spatial analysis, socio-economic trade-offs, and ecological restoration data across Baltic coastal zones.
- Policy & Ecosystem Management: Formulating practical decision-support frameworks for marine spatial planners, environmental agencies, and coastal managers.

Candidate Requirements
- Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Environmental Science, Aquatic Ecology, Marine Biology, Coastal Resource Management, or related field.

- Strong command of spoken and written English.
