WorldFish, a leading CGIAR international research center headquartered in Penang, Malaysia, is welcoming applications for its International Postdoctoral Fellowships in Sustainable Aquatic Food Systems and Resilient Aquaculture for the 2026–2027 cycle.
Research Focus & Aquatic Science Scope
Working across WorldFish research stations in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, postdoctoral fellows lead high-impact applied science initiatives:
- Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation: Developing climate-smart hatchery protocols, optimizing local fish feed formulations, and advancing Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA).
- Small-Scale Fisheries & Governance: Assessing fisheries stock status, co-management frameworks, and post-harvest aquatic value chains in coastal and inland waters.
- Aquatic Animal Nutrition & Genetics: Leveraging selective breeding programs (such as Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia – GIFT) to improve disease resistance and climate resilience in farmed fish.
Fellowship Package & Support
- Host Organization: WorldFish (CGIAR), with regional postings across Malaysia, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Zambia.
- Duration: 2 Years full-time international fellowship (with potential renewal).

Candidate Requirements
- Ph.D. in Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Marine Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or Aquatic Agricultural Systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in quantitative fisheries assessment, aquaculture trials, or fish socio-ecological systems.
- Willingness to conduct extensive fieldwork in tropical coastal and freshwater environments.
