The Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), Kochi, an autonomous research institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, invites applications from highly motivated researchers for Project Scientist (I & II), Senior Project Associate, and Project Associate positions under the high-priority Marine Living Resources Programme (MLRP) and the Deep Ocean Mission.
About CMLRE Kochi & FORV Sagar Sampada
CMLRE operates as the national nodal agency for ecosystem monitoring and exploration of living marine resources in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and adjacent international waters. Utilizing the specialized Fishery and Oceanographic Research Vessel FORV Sagar Sampada, CMLRE spearheads comprehensive ocean surveys on mesopelagic living resources, benthic ecosystems, harmful algal blooms, coral reef biogeochemistry, and deep-sea biodiversity.
Key Research Thrust Areas
- Deep Ocean Living Resources & Taxonomy: Discovery, anatomical description, and taxonomic classification of deep-sea invertebrates, bathypelagic fauna, and hydrothermal vent organisms.
- Fishery Oceanography & Ecosystem Dynamics: Investigating physical-chemical-biological coupling, upwelling dynamics in the Arabian Sea, and recruitment variability of commercially vital pelagic fish stocks.
- Marine Bio-Genomics & eDNA: Environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding of open ocean waters, high-throughput metagenomics, and molecular barcoding of marine fauna.
- Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) Surveillance: Toxin chemistry, phytoplankton blooms, and ecological drivers of marine algal blooms along the southwest and southeast coasts of India.
- Coral Reef Ecosystems: Health assessment, calcification dynamics, and climate resilience of Lakshadweep and Andaman atoll reefs.
