Minn Kota + Humminbird Become One Fishing System

Two of the biggest names in fishing electronics have just become one. On 6 October 2026, Minn Kota — the trolling-motor giant owned by Johnson Outdoors of Racine, Wisconsin — announced the most significant expansion in its history: a single, integrated fishing system that unites trolling motors, fish finders, sonar, mapping, navigation and shallow-water anchors under one name, Minn Kota. Humminbird, its sister brand for decades, is not disappearing — its sonar and imaging technology now powers the whole system under the name Humminbird Imaging.

For anglers, the headline is simple: the fish finder and the trolling motor finally work as one machine. What the screen sees, the motor now does — and that changes how a day on the water actually plays out. This is not a bare rewrite of the announcement. Below are the products, the prices, what existing owners get for free, and what it means for anglers in India who run imported electronics.

What actually changed on 6 October 2026

Minn Kota and Humminbird have been sister brands under Johnson Outdoors for decades, helping anglers find fish and hold the boat over them. Until now, though, they were still separate product worlds that had to be linked together. The new system ends that split. As Minn Kota puts it, the new brand takes a holistic approach to integrating product categories, so anglers spend less time managing disconnected equipment and more time fishing.

The practical idea is what Minn Kota calls shortening the distance between seeing something on the screen and putting the boat where it needs to be. Three features carry that idea:

  • Draw & Navigate: trace a route with your finger directly on a compatible Minn Kota fish finder, and the trolling motor follows it automatically — work a contour, hop between waypoints, or retrace a productive path without steering by hand all afternoon.
  • Intelligent Depth Control: the system watches changing water depth and warns when shallow or hazardous water is ahead; on compatible setups it can automatically engage Spot-Lock and deploy shallow-water anchors.
  • Wireless connectivity: compatible fish finders and trolling motors now talk to each other wirelessly — no Ethernet cable between the two — and wireless connectivity is standard on 2027 Advanced GPS motors and available by update on 2024 and newer motors that already have Advanced GPS.

Spot-Lock itself gets tighter: Minn Kota says new compatible trolling motors offer up to a 50% tighter hold than previous Minn Kota models. Shallow-water anchors can now be controlled through a compatible trolling motor, fish finder, or the new Minn Kota Fishing App, which replaces the One-Boat Network App and gathers motor, finder, anchor, mapping and waypoint control in one place.

The new hardware: X Series finders and a full trolling-motor range

The first hardware wave went on sale on 6 October 2026. The new Minn Kota X Series fish finders come in 7-, 9-, 10-, 12- and 16-inch displays — including new 7- and 16-inch sizes — with Side Imaging, Down Imaging and Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar, plus Minn Kota Maps built on LakeMaster data covering more than 13,000 inland lakes and coastal maps, with detail down to one-foot contours in supported areas.

The trolling-motor lineup refreshes familiar families, with QUEST brushless models that Minn Kota says deliver up to 50% more torque and 30% longer runtime than a 24-volt brushed motor run at maximum speed, plus Real-Time Battery Monitoring. A clear transducer direction indicator on the new motors is designed to make steering more predictable with live-sonar setups, removing lag and oversteer. Saltwater anglers get the Riptide versions, built for corrosive saltwater environments.

Product (available 6 Oct 2026) US price range
Minn Kota X Series fish finders (7″–16″) $1,099.99 – $3,999.99
Ultrex & Ultrex QUEST $3,299.99 – $4,499.99
Ulterra & Ulterra QUEST $3,199.99 – $4,999.99
Riptide Instinct QUEST $4,899.99 – $6,599.99
Terrova $1,849.99 – $2,999.99
Riptide Terrova & Riptide Terrova QUEST $2,649.99 – $5,799.99
PowerDrive & Riptide PowerDrive $1,399.99 – $2,299.99
ICE X7 2D + Flasher Bundle $1,299.99
Minn Kota Maps (by coverage / Premium package) $179.99 – $419.99

A second wave is already dated: from early 2027, Minn Kota plans the A Series fish finders, Terrova QUEST and Riptide Terrova QUEST motors, Minn Kota Live Sonar and Minn Kota 360 Imaging. Details of those products will be announced closer to launch, so treat any price or specification you see for them before then as unconfirmed.

Good news for existing owners: your gear gets the new tricks

The most useful part of the announcement for people who already own the gear is that it is not hardware-only. Minn Kota says existing Humminbird products will continue to be supported under the new Minn Kota brand, and software updates available from 6 October 2026 bring new system capabilities to compatible equipment:

  • Compatible current-generation Humminbird XPLORE, APEX and SOLIX G3 fish finders can receive software updates adding Draw & Navigate, Intelligent Depth Control, wireless trolling-motor connectivity, Minn Kota Fishing App integration and shallow-water anchor control.
  • 2024 and newer GPS-enabled Minn Kota trolling motors are in line for the wireless-connectivity update.
  • MEGA Live 2 gets improved down-mode performance, better hard-return performance, improved fish, bait and jig tracking, and interference improvements that let more than one MEGA Live 2 transducer run at once.

One caution from the fine print matters: a new badge does not pull every older head unit into the network. Only the compatible current-generation models listed above are in line for the new capabilities — check your exact model against Minn Kota’s compatibility list before assuming your unit qualifies.

How to get the update (existing owners)

  1. Confirm your model: check whether your fish finder is an XPLORE, APEX or SOLIX G3 unit, or your trolling motor is a 2024-or-newer GPS-enabled model. Anything older than those lists is not promised the new features.
  2. Install the Minn Kota Fishing App: it replaces the One-Boat Network App as the single control point for motor, finder, anchors, mapping and waypoints.
  3. Apply the software update: updates bringing the new system capabilities have been available since 6 October 2026 — run the update through the app or your unit’s update route before your next trip.
  4. Pair wirelessly: once updated, compatible finders and motors connect without an Ethernet cable; test Draw & Navigate and Spot-Lock in safe, open water before relying on them near structure.
  5. Buying new: if you are rigging a fresh boat, compare the X Series finder sizes and QUEST versus standard motors against your boat size and battery setup — the price spread from about $1,100 to over $6,500 is wide, and the right pick depends on hull, water and budget, not the flagship alone.

What it means for anglers in India

India has no separate announcement or India pricing in this launch — the prices above are US list prices, and Indian buyers should confirm landed cost, warranty and service support with authorised dealers or importers before ordering. But the direction of travel matters here too. Indian sport-fishing and reservoir angling are increasingly electronics-led: live sonar changed the game once, and this launch shows where the industry is heading — the screen and the motor as one system rather than two purchases that happen to talk to each other.

It also sharpens the competition at the top of the market. Garmin’s live-sonar push — covered here earlier in our look at the Garmin LiveScope 2 series — now faces a rival that answers with integration rather than raw imaging alone. And as Indian waters see more electric and tech-heavy boats, from India’s first electric fishing boat to heavy-lift fish-carrying drones, the boat itself is becoming a connected platform — the electronics decision is now a whole-boat decision.

The honest verdict: if you already own compatible Humminbird or Minn Kota gear, the free software update is the real story — new capabilities without new hardware. If you are buying fresh, the X Series and QUEST motors are worth a showroom look, but wait for the early-2027 wave details before assuming today’s flagship is the end of the line.
