The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad, an autonomous scientific organization under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, invites applications from talented researchers and marine scientists for Project Scientist (I & II), Senior Project Associate, and Project Associate positions under the central O-SMART scheme and the Deep Ocean Mission.
About INCOIS Hyderabad
INCOIS serves as the national hub providing ocean information, advisories, and warning services to Indian fishers, maritime industries, and scientific institutions. Renowned for its flagship Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) Advisories, INCOIS integrates multi-satellite sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a remote sensing data with real-time ocean observations to guide traditional and mechanized fishers toward productive pelagic grounds, drastically reducing fish search time and fuel expenditure.
Key Research Thrust Areas
- Operational Fishery Oceanography & PFZ Services: Development of high-resolution Species-Specific Fishery Advisories (Tuna PFZ), acoustic pelagic biomass validation, and numerical modeling of fish aggregation dynamics in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal.
- Marine Ecosystem & Biogeochemical Modeling: Assimilation of biogeochemical Argo (Bio-Argo) profiling data into regional circulation models (ROMS) to simulate marine primary productivity, phytoplankton succession, and carbon export fluxes.
- Ocean State Forecast (OSF) & Extreme Marine Events: Forecasting sea surface waves, storm surges, coastal currents, and marine heatwaves affecting nearshore aquaculture operations and artisanal fisheries.
- Coral Bleaching Alert System (CBAS): Satellite thermal stress monitoring and real-time bleaching risk forecasting across the Andaman, Nicobar, Lakshadweep, and Gulf of Mannar coral reef ecosystems.
- Marine Remote Sensing & Big Data Analytics: Processing optical and microwave satellite ocean datasets, automated algal bloom detection, and machine learning models for oceanographic feature tracking.
