ICAR-CIBA Brackishwater Aquaculture & Shrimp Genomics Fellowships 2026

The ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, is inviting applications from motivated and talented researchers for Young Professional and Research Fellow positions across several priority scientific projects in brackishwater aquaculture, crustacean genomics, and aquatic animal health for the 2026/27 research cycles.

About ICAR-CIBA

As the premier national institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), CIBA serves as the nodal agency for technology development, sustainable intensification, and diversification in brackishwater finfish and shellfish aquaculture across India’s maritime states and island territories.

Core Research Disciplines & Project Themes

  • Shrimp Genetics & Selective Breeding: Family-based selective breeding and high-throughput genomic selection in Indian white shrimp (Penaeus indicus) and black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) to enhance growth rate and specific pathogen resistance (SPR).
  • Diversified Marine & Brackishwater Finfish: Captive broodstock maturation, hormone-induced spawning, and larval rearing protocols for Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer), grey mullet (Mugil cephalus), and pearlspot (Etroplus suratensis).
  • Advanced Culture Engineering: Optimization of indoor Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), biofloc technology (BFT), and nursery management systems for hyper-intensive crustacean farming.
  • Aquatic Pathology & Disease Diagnostics: Genomic characterization and epidemiology of crustacean pathogens (WSSV, EHP, Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei, IMNV) and validation of point-of-care isothermal amplification (LAMP) diagnostic kits.
  • Fish & Shellfish Nutrition: Formulation of cost-effective indigenous aquatic feeds, fishmeal substitution using insect meal (black soldier fly larvae) and microalgal single-cell protein (SCP).
