The French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea (Ifremer) is offering prestigious international postdoctoral research fellowships (up to 36 months) across its marine research centers in France, focusing on sustainable fisheries management, marine ecosystems, and biological oceanography.
Research Focus & Marine Science Scope
Postdoctoral fellows join world-class research laboratories including MARBEC (Marine Biodiversity, Exploitation and Conservation), LOPS (Laboratory of Physical and Spatial Oceanography), and LEMAR (Laboratory of Environmental Marine Sciences). Priority research lines include:
- Sustainable Fisheries Management & Stock Assessment: Developing quantitative population models, evaluating ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM), and studying climate change impacts on commercial fish stocks.
- Marine Biodiversity & Trophic Ecology: Investigating pelagic and demersal marine food webs, coastal biodiversity conservation, and deep-sea benthic communities.
- Ocean Observation & Biogeochemistry: Utilizing the French oceanographic research fleet, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and satellite remote sensing for ocean health monitoring.
Fellowship Benefits & Contract Details
- Host Institution: Ifremer Research Centres (Brest, Nantes, Montpellier, Boulogne-sur-Mer), France.
- Contract Duration: Up to 36 months full-time research employment.
- Remuneration: Competitive French national public research salary scale with comprehensive health and social benefits.
- Research Support: Direct access to the French oceanographic fleet, state-of-the-art aquaculture testing facilities, and high-performance computing clusters.
Candidate Requirements
- Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, Biological Oceanography, Marine Ecology, or Aquatic Biogeochemistry obtained within the last 3 years.
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and quantitative ecological/oceanographic modeling skills.
- International mobility compliance (must not have spent more than 12 months in France during the 36 months preceding recruitment).
How to Apply
Interested postdoctoral candidates must consult the official Ifremer Careers and Talent Detection portals. Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact prospective host laboratory directors at Ifremer to co-develop their research proposal before formal electronic submission.
