Key Research Domains & Project Objectives
ICAR-CIFRI is India’s dedicated national research institute pioneering sustainable inland fisheries management across rivers, estuaries, reservoirs, and floodplain wetlands. Selected researchers will work on high-impact projects covering:
- Riverine Fisheries & Environmental Flows (E-Flows): Assessing fish assemblage structures, migration patterns, and minimum environmental flow requirements across the Ganga, Brahmaputra, and peninsular river systems.
- Floodplain Wetland (Beel/Pat) Ecology: Enhancing fish productivity through pen culture, habitat restoration, macrophyte control, and community-based fisheries management.
- Inland Aquatic Pollution & Bio-monitoring: Water and sediment quality analysis, microplastics detection, heavy metal bioaccumulation in freshwater food chains, and ecological indicators.
- Fish Stock Assessment & Acoustic Telemetry: Radio and acoustic tagging of migratory fishes (such as Tenualosa ilisha and major carps), evaluation of fish passage efficiency across river barrages, and GIS-based fisheries mapping.
Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications
Candidates must satisfy the following minimum educational requirements as per ICAR guidelines:
- For Young Professional-II (YP-II):
- Master’s degree in Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) with specialization in Inland Fisheries Administration, Aquatic Environment Management, Fisheries Resource Management, Aquaculture, or Fish Biotechnology.
OR - M.Sc. in Zoology (Fisheries specialization), Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Science, Biotechnology, or Life Sciences with at least 60% marks from a recognized university.
- Desirable: Field experience in riverine sampling, water quality analysis, GIS/remote sensing, or statistical data handling in R/Python.
- Master’s degree in Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) with specialization in Inland Fisheries Administration, Aquatic Environment Management, Fisheries Resource Management, Aquaculture, or Fish Biotechnology.
- For Young Professional-I (YP-I):
- Bachelor’s degree in Fishery Science (B.F.Sc.) or Bachelor’s in Zoology, Life Sciences, Chemistry, or Environmental Science.
- Desirable: Familiarity with limnological laboratory analysis, fish identification, and computer applications (MS Office, data entry).
Age Limit & Emoluments
- Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and maximum 45 years on the date of interview (relaxation applicable for SC/ST/OBC and women candidates as per Government of India rules).
- Consolidated Stipend:
- YP-II: ₹42,000/- per month.
- YP-I: ₹30,000/- per month.
- Tenure: Initially for 1 year, extendable based on project requirements and performance review.
