Through cutting-edge research facilities across its headquarters in Mumbai and regional centres (Kakinada, Rohtak, Kolkata, Powerkheda), the institute conducts frontline research in fish breeding, sustainable aquaculture, genomics, disease diagnosis, environmental limnology, and seafood processing technology.
Key Research Divisions & Thrust Areas
- Aquaculture Division: Broodstock development, selective breeding of indigenous carps and catfish, indoor recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), biofloc technology, and live feed culture.
- Fisheries Resource Management (FRM): Marine and inland stock assessment, molecular taxonomy, marine protected areas (MPAs), and GIS-based fish habitat mapping.
- Aquatic Animal Health Management (AAHM): Viral, bacterial, and parasitic diagnostics in finfish and crustacean culture systems, development of aquatic vaccines, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance.

Age Limit & Relaxations
The minimum age is 21 years and maximum age is 45 years for Young Professionals, with statutory age relaxations admissible for SC/ST/OBC/Women candidates as per ICAR/Government of India norms.
