The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, has announced 25 Postdoctoral Fellowships under the prestigious Deep Ocean Mission (MoES-DOM-PDF) for the 2026–2027 academic intake, coordinated through the Advanced Marine Station for Ocean Biology (AMSOB) and the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT).
Research Focus & Ocean Biology Scope
India’s Deep Ocean Mission aims to explore bathyal and abyssal marine environments, safeguard deep-sea biodiversity, and advance blue economy technology. The postdoctoral fellowships support research across key mission verticals:
- Deep-Sea Biodiversity & Marine Biotechnology: Developing innovative field sampling, DNA barcoding, and bioprospecting tools for deep-sea extremophiles, benthic invertebrates, and hydrothermal vent organisms.
- Ocean Climate Advisory & Biogeochemistry: Investigating ocean carbon sequestration, deep-sea nutrient cycling, and climate change dynamics in the Indian Ocean.
- Underwater Robotics & Ocean Engineering: Collaborating on deep-sea manned submersibles, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), and sea-floor mining sensor networks.
Fellowship Benefits & Details
- Host Institutions: NIOT (Chennai), CMLRE (Kochi), NCPOR (Goa), and AMSOB research hubs across India.
- Total Openings: 25 Postdoctoral Fellowships for the 2026–2027 cycle.
- Stipend & Support: Competitive national postdoctoral fellowship stipend, contingency research grant, and access to oceanographic research vessel cruises.
Candidate Requirements
- Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Biological Oceanography, Hydrobiology, Marine Biotechnology, Oceanography, or related marine science disciplines.
- Age limit generally 35 years or under (with standard government relaxation).
- Strong record of scientific peer-reviewed publications and marine field experience.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online via the official AMSOB (amsob.in) and NIOT (niot.res.in) recruitment portals. Submit a detailed research proposal, CV, list of publications, and degree certificates.
