The Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, is recruiting an Assistant Researcher in Natural Sciences (Environmental Science / Hydrogeology) for a 7-month full-time research project led by Dr. Philipp Wanner.
Research Focus & Water Resources Scope
The research project focuses on “Artificial groundwater recharge – a shortcut for harmful poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) into groundwater systems and drinking water supplies – can we avoid this?” Key project activities include:
- Aquifer PFAS Dynamics: Investigating the fate, transport, and mobility of toxic PFAS compounds during artificial groundwater recharge process.
- Groundwater Quality Protection: Testing water purification filter media, reactive barriers, and hydrogeological modeling to mitigate chemical contamination in drinking water aquifers.
- Hydrogeological Field & Lab Analysis: Conducting groundwater sampling, column experiments, and hydrochemical modeling in coastal aquifer systems.

Candidate Requirements
- Ph.D. degree in Hydrogeology, Environmental Geochemistry, Water Resources Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- Experience in PFAS analysis, groundwater modeling, hydrogeochemical field methods, or column transport experiments.
- Proficiency in English.
