The OHASIS Doctoral Programme—a collaborative initiative between leading research universities in Austria and Italy—is accepting applications for nine fully funded Ph.D. positions focusing on Environmental One Health, Aquatic Bio-Safety, Zoonotic Pathogens, and Food Safety.
Research Focus & Environmental One Health Scope
Interactions between aquatic ecosystems, wildlife reservoirs, water quality, and public health are central to modern One Health frameworks. This 3-year interdisciplinary doctoral program provides specialized research training across key domains:
- Environmental & Aquatic Bio-Safety: Investigating waterborne microbial pathogens, environmental reservoirs of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and aquatic food safety.
- Epidemiology & Zoonotic Transmission: Modeling pathogen transmission dynamics across wildlife, aquatic vectors, and agricultural water interfaces.
- Multi-Omics & Environmental Diagnostics: Applying metagenomics, environmental DNA (eDNA) surveillance, and molecular microbiology.
Host Institutions & Funding Package
- Host Universities: University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (Vetmeduni Austria), Medical University of Innsbruck, and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (unibz Italy).
- Funding: 9 Fully funded 3-year employment contracts with competitive salaries and social security.

Candidate Requirements
- Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related fields.
- Strong enthusiasm for interdisciplinary One Health research and environmental bio-surveillance.
- English language proficiency (and German B2 for specific Vetmeduni field projects).
