The Technical University of Munich (TUM), in partnership with Imperial College London, is offering a fully funded Ph.D. position in Environmental Microbiology and Multi-Omics Research within the international research initiative NANOMICO.
Research Focus & Multi-Omics Approach
Understanding how environmental exposure to micro- and nanoparticles alters microbial community structures, biofilm formation, and resistome dynamics is crucial for environmental health and One Health initiatives. Supervised by Prof. Michael Schloter, this doctoral project investigates microbial interaction models and metabolic adaptations. Key research areas include:
- Analyzing microbial community dynamics, biofilm formation, and antimicrobial resistance mechanisms.
- Integrating metagenomics, resistome profiling, and metabolomics across multi-omics platforms.
- Conducting collaborative research stays at Imperial College London to utilize advanced microbial isolation techniques.

Eligibility & Requirements
- Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Microbiology, Environmental Health, Molecular Ecology, Systems Biology, or related fields.
- Experience with microbial cultivation, molecular biology techniques, or bioinformatic analysis of sequencing datasets.
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary One Health research and collaborative international science.
