The Department of Horticulture is seeking talented individuals to contribute to pioneering projects in precision agriculture, vertical farming, and smart crop management.
About the Postdoctoral Position
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate at UGA, you will engage in advanced research and development, focusing on:
- High-throughput and high-precision plant phenotyping systems
- Automated vertical farming technologies
- Real-time robotic crop and environmental management tools using Agricultural Internet of Things (Ag IoT)
Potential Research Topics Include:
✅ Explainable machine learning for plant parameter assessment
✅ Hyperspectral or fluorescence imaging to predict plant nutrient status
✅ 3D plant reconstruction, robotics, and advanced imaging systems for controlled environments
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will possess:
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical, Agricultural, or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Horticulture, or related fields
- At least three first-author peer-reviewed journal publications
- Strong programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C++, or mobile app development
- Experience with CAD 3D modeling, rapid prototyping, and microcontroller-based circuit design
- Knowledge in image processing, machine learning, spectral analysis, and robotics
- A background in plant science and crop management with a focus on CEA systems
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
- A collaborative, innovative, and self-motivated attitude
