Fully Funded PhD Position in Fish Physiology – Nord University, Norway (Deadline: June 15, 2025)

Are you passionate about fish physiology, molecular biology, and aquatic stress research? Nord University’s Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture invites applications for a fully funded PhD fellowship in Fish Physiology, based at the beautiful Campus Bodø, Norway.


🔍 About the PhD Fellowship

This is a 3-year (or optionally 4-year) full-time PhD position in Fish Physiology, focused on understanding mitochondrial efficiency in fish gills under environmental stressors. The research will use advanced imaging and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies to investigate mitochondrial dysfunction and its effect on fish health.

You will work with two model fish species, diving deep into mitochondria-rich tissues to understand how stress impacts cellular functions.

🎓 Eligibility and Qualification Requirements

To apply for this prestigious PhD opportunity, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Master’s degree (MSc) in Biosciences, preferably with a focus on:
    • Molecular Biology
    • Genomics
    • Cell Biology
    • Biotechnology
  • Solid academic record with grade B or above (ECTS scale A-E)
  • Experience with:
    • Next-generation sequencing (NGS)
    • Big data handling
    • R programming language
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
  • Non-EU/EEA applicants must provide NOKUT approval of their degree
  • Applicants must not already hold a PhD degree
