The Department of Ecoscience at Aarhus University is inviting applications for a permanent, full-time Associate Professor in Ecosystem Modelling. The position is based at the Section for Arctic Ecosystem Ecology in Roskilde, Denmark, and is scheduled to begin on 1 July 2026 (or by mutual agreement).
Academic Scope and Research Focus
The successful candidate will lead and expand research in carbon cycle science and greenhouse gas dynamics in Arctic and other high-latitude ecosystems. The position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of water engineering, climate science, and landscape ecology. Key areas of interest include:
- Developing and applying process-based numerical ecosystem models.
- Integrating long-term in situ environmental measurements, remote sensing data, and model simulations.
- Investigating energy, water, and nutrient fluxes in tundra, wetland, and coastal high-latitude systems.
- Contributing to Arctic monitoring networks and global climate change assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an internationally recognized research profile in ecosystem modeling.
- Secure competitive research grants from national and international funding bodies.
- Teach and supervise students in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in biology, environmental science, and water engineering.

Qualifications and Profile
- Ph.D. in Ecosystem Science, Environmental Modeling, Physical Geography, Climatology, or related fields.
- Substantial postdoctoral research experience with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Proven track record of obtaining research funding and executing projects.
- Advanced skills in numerical programming and handling spatial/temporal datasets.
- Strong teaching portfolio and willingness to contribute to university administration.
