Who Can Apply
Essential qualification: Graduate in Fisheries Science, M.Sc. in Zoology or Life Sciences, or an equivalent qualification.
Desirable: Professional or work experience in ornamental fish breeding and aquaculture activities at a reputed laboratory or organisation, with computer knowledge for recording and analysing scientific research data.
The work involves field and laboratory activities under the ornamental fish breeding and culture network project — captive breeding, culture work and the scientific recording that goes with it.
What to Carry to the Walk-In
- Completed biodata proforma (as prescribed in the official notification)
- One set of self-attested copies of relevant documents, including degrees, marksheets and certificates
- 2 recent passport-size photographs
- Original documents for verification at the venue

Selection and Terms
Selection is based on academic performance, experience and performance during the interview. Only candidates who meet the eligibility conditions after screening will be taken forward to the interview.
The position is purely temporary and contractual. The Director, ICAR-NBFGR, may terminate it at any stage. The appointment may be extended yearly based on the candidate’s performance assessment and fund availability, and the tenure and service conditions are governed by project and ICAR guidelines. The place of work may change as required.
Why This Opportunity Matters
NBFGR is India’s apex institute for fish genetic resources — the collection, cataloguing, genomic characterisation and conservation of indigenous fish genetic resources. Its ornamental fish network project works on captive breeding and culture of ornamental species, an area where hands-on breeding and hatchery experience is exactly what private hatcheries, aquaria trade units and research programmes look for. For a fisheries or zoology graduate, a YP-I stint here is a direct route into that experience, at a fixed ₹30,000 per month, without a written exam in between.
Before You Travel — Read This
This is a walk-in interview, not an online application: there is no email application step for this post. Verify the official notification on the NBFGR website (nbfgr.res.in) before travelling to Lucknow, and carry the prescribed biodata proforma exactly as the notification requires. Do not pay anyone who claims to arrange selection for this post — selection is through the walk-in interview only.
