Jayalalithaa Fisheries University (TNJFU), Nagapattinam, India’s leading state-funded specialized fisheries university, invites applications from motivated fisheries graduates and marine scientists for Research Associate (RA), Senior Research Fellow (SRF), and Project Associate positions across frontier aquaculture and marine fisheries projects.

About TNJFU & Research Infrastructure

TNJFU is dedicated exclusively to professional education, cutting-edge research, and technology transfer in fisheries science and aquaculture. Operating specialized constituent colleges and research centres—including the historic Fisheries College and Research Institute (FC&RI) at Thoothukudi, FC&RI Ponneri (Chennai), the Directorate of Sustainable Aquaculture, and accredited Aquatic Animal Health and Biosecurity Laboratories—TNJFU drives innovation in shrimp breeding, finfish mariculture, and value-added post-harvest technologies.

Key Project Focus & Research Domains

  • Brackishwater Aquaculture & Mariculture: Seed production, larval rearing, and hatchery protocols for Asian Seabass (Lates calcarifer), Mud Crab (Scylla serrata), and Pacific White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei).
  • Aquaculture Engineering & Intensive Farming: Commercial recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), biofloc technology (BFT), and automated water filtration and oxygenation setups.
  • Aquatic Animal Health Management: Surveillance of White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV), Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP), and Vibrio parahaemolyticus; development of biological immunostimulants and autogenous vaccines.
  • Fish Nutrition & Feed Technology: Formulation of cost-effective indigenous aquafeeds utilizing insect meals (black soldier fly larvae) and microalgae biomass as fishmeal substitutes.
  • Fisheries Resource Management: Stock assessment of Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay pelagic and demersal fish populations, marine protected area (MPA) monitoring, and GIS-based fish habitat mapping.

Research Associate / Postdoctoral Fellow Ph.D. in Fisheries Science (Aquaculture, FRM, AAHM, Processing) OR M.F.Sc. with 3 years research experience and published research papers. ₹47,000 – ₹54,000/- + HRA
Senior Research Fellow (SRF) Master’s degree in Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc. with 4+2 degree pattern) OR M.Sc. in Marine Biology / Marine Biotechnology with NET qualification and 2 years experience. ₹35,000 – ₹42,000/- + HRA
Project Associate-I / II Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) OR M.Sc. in Zoology / Marine Science / Aquatic Biotechnology from a recognized university. ₹25,000 – ₹31,000/- + HRA

Selection Process & Guidelines

Candidates must satisfy the requisite qualifications prescribed by ICAR, DBT, or State funding bodies. Age relaxations apply for SC/ST/OBC/Women applicants as per Government of Tamil Nadu norms. Selection is conducted via preliminary screening followed by in-person or online video interviews.
