The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, an autonomous premier technical research institute under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, invites applications from talented marine scientists, aquaculture engineers, and biotechnologists for Project Scientist (I & II), Senior Project Associate, and Project Associate positions across frontier marine farming and ocean science initiatives.
About NIOT Ocean Farming & Marine Biotechnology
Under the Government of India’s flagship Deep Ocean Mission and Blue Economy frameworks, NIOT’s Marine Biotechnology and Ocean Farming Division spearheads indigenous engineering innovations for offshore open-sea mariculture. With offshore demonstration facilities in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and the Andaman Islands, NIOT undertakes groundbreaking work in floating and submersible sea cage designs, mooring hydrodynamics, eco-friendly antifouling technologies, and the bioprospecting of marine bioactive metabolites.
Key Project Focus & Research Areas
- Offshore Sea Cage Aquaculture Engineering: Structural design, wave-current hydrodynamic modeling, mooring stability, and automated feeding/monitoring systems for deep-water marine fish cages.
- High-Value Marine Finfish Farming: Nursery rearing, juvenile acclimation, stocking density optimization, and growth kinetics of Asian Seabass (Lates calcarifer), Cobia (Rachycentron canadum), and Silver Pompano (Trachinotus blochii).
- Marine Biotechnology & Microbial Bioprospecting: Isolation and characterization of marine enzymes, antimicrobial peptides from marine bacteria, and microalgal lipids for aquafeed supplementation.
- Oceanographic Sensors & Water Quality Surveillance: Deployment of real-time multi-parameter water quality probes, optical dissolved oxygen loggers, and underwater acoustic telemetry to monitor mariculture ecosystems.
- Eco-Friendly Antifouling Technologies: Development of non-toxic marine natural product-based anti-biofouling coatings for aquaculture netting and marine sensor payloads.
