Research Focus and Context

The selected M.S. student will join a vibrant academic department and have the opportunity to work alongside researchers at the Quantitative Fisheries Center (QFC). The research focuses on the population ecology, habitat requirements, and conservation of freshwater fish species in Michigan’s streams, lakes, and Great Lakes coastal waters. Projects typically involve applying statistical models and field sampling techniques to evaluate the effectiveness of fisheries management actions and understand how environmental stressors impact fish communities.

• Prior experience or willingness to learn statistical programming (especially R) and data analysis.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with agency biologists and stakeholders.
